Mid-level cloud layers kept it grey-bird most of the day with some clearing in the late afternoon. Temperatures were warm for the alpine. Mostly calm with light southwest winds.
Snowpack
Found the widespread late January pineapple express crust down 50-70cm. It was easy to identify with a probe and had various thicknesses and strengths from 1-5cm. The snow above it seemed fairly well bonded and below the crust was less than 1-finger hand hardness. HS370cm.
At 4,600' on a NW aspect, a quick pit revealed compression test results of CT11 SC down 55cm that failed on the new snow/old snow interface that consisted of 0.25-0.5mm near-surface facets. This was the cold snow that sat out at the surface last week when temperatures dropped.
Avalanche
Observed a variety of old natural avalanche activity from last weekend's storm up to size 2, including three unique slides on Shakuseyi (3920) with one that ran ~500ft. The steep NE-aspect of Tukgahgo Mountain had a debris flow that looked like a size 3.
