With this storm comes fresh snow, unfortunatly the widespread near surface faceting observed about a week and a half ago on top of Southern Aspect sun crusts along with wind loading on Northern Aspects have made a good formula for avalanches.

Careful evaluation needs to be done before going into avalanche terrain:

-Hand pits deeper than 30 cm can help detect the presences of this weak layer

-Watching out for wind loaded Northern Aspects (the weak layer will be buried deeper)

-Delibrate terrain/route selection can help a small avalanche not turn into a big issue.

Cracking observed in a few spots and around exsisting avalanche crown.

Steady moderate winds from the South with strong gusts. Sun was fighting to poke out most of the day.

Snowpack

In some spots up to 30 cm of new/wind transposrted snow, this is on top of the near surface faceting we had about a week and a half ago. The most senstive spots had this faceting on top of a sun crust layer.

Avalanche

Several Natural and one human triggered avalcnhe in the College Drainage. Mostly on the SSW aspects. These were breaking at the New/old snow interface at the buried facets or a sun crust layer. D1-1.5 30cm Slab
