RED FLAG: Snow was blowing off Nadiahini from south winds and getting deposited onto north aspect. Hardly much snow at this area of the pass, maybe higher up. Slopes were ridable and variable with a skiff of snow over a surface crust. Very shallow areas around rocks with about 2 feet of snow at 4,500'. A thick crust near the bottom of the snowpack was found and test results produced no propogation. It will be important to map the elevations of early season crusts as they could wake up if temperatures regimes get cold again

Fog in the morning that liftened with patchy clouds and moderate south wind through the day.
Snowpack
Supportable re-frozen crust from last weeks warm-up with a dusting of snow as we skinned from the road. At 3,200' there were several melt-freeze crusts within the 1-2 feet of total snowpack. At 4,500' a bit more than 2 feet of snow (70cm). Poked around at weaker snow above and below a crust with extended column test results of ECTN18 down 45cm above the crust. This interface consistented of 0.5-1mm rounding facets. More small grain rounding facets at the base.
