Quick report

Today, we planned to get a visual of the Leavitt Lake area for a quick tour of the terrain.  We didn't make it to Leavitt Lake because we stopped for to take pictures of a large D3 avalanche that ran across the road, and up the other side of Leavitt creek. The avalanche occurred in the Repeat offender slide path which is aptly named for its frequent avalanches. Multiple stands of mature trees were pushed over and uprooted, along with large avalanche debris on the opposite side of the creek. We took a few laps with the snowmobiles in the area to get a grasp the full size of the avalanche.  Although most of the evidence had been covered by recent snow and wind, we feel confident that this was a wet slab avalanche.

White-out conditions arrived before we could make it to Leavitt Lake, we were un able to get a solid visual on the terrain above the tree line today. Extreme winds were blowing snow at the ridgeline.
