Dug this pit a 100 or 150 vertical feet below the summit, at the steepest part of NW ridge to the summit. Surprising 160 cm (5 ft 3") depth, the deepest snow pack I have seen so far this season.
Couldn't get a shovel compression test to fail even after 30 taps. A shovel shear test broke just above the 4F weak layer at 100 cm (from ground). The shear was weak, barely moved, just a tab bit of energy. Didn't do an extended column test because I got cold.
Snowpack
In a few places such as around trees, there was minor wind crust that cracked a few inches deep but never propagated. In some other places a few feet away, the new snow was completely blown away leaving expose the stiff hard layer from last week's storm that was difficult to skin on.
