It still felt like winter in the Alexander Drainage today with temps of -9C in the alpine and moderate winds forming windslabs. We saw several small old wind slabs that had avalanched out of steep north-west facing alpine slopes. There were also some very large cornices in the area, one of which broke and slid a long way down an east facing slope but did not trigger a slab. We were extra cautious approaching ridge lines thinking that the large overhanging cornices could break pretty far back. At lower elevations, there was about 25cm of soft snow on a crust, in sheltered areas in the trees, which made for fun riding.
