We took advantage of a brief weather window on Thursday to tour up to the top of Common Bowl via the standard uptrack. From there, we skied several laps in Common Bowl and Hippy Bowl, descending towards Tincan Creek. From the trailhead up to approximately 1,800 feet, a few inches of new snow overlay a breakable melt-freeze crust. Above 1,800 feet, the snow surface transitioned to soft snow, with a deep and supportive snowpack. Probing with ski poles, we did not encounter any crust layers as far down as we could reach. No red flags were observed during the tour, and the alpine snowpack appeared well-consolidated and strong. Several other groups were skiing in the area, and we saw no signs of instability. Surface hoar was noted above the treeline. The weather was pleasant, with light winds, temperatures in the teens, and partly cloudy skies. High clouds were moving in ahead of the next storm, and valley fog/stratus drifted in and out throughout the day.
