Quick report
We toured to the summit of Hale Bopp just below 5000 feet, and above 4000 feet we found a shallow snowpack with varying depth from over a meter to less than a foot. Surprisingly the surface snow was excellent above 4000 feet, great boot top powder with minimal wind effect. The new snow had a layer of facets that released easily in a hand pit, about 12" down in this location at 4600 feet. The snow popped off the column in a clean and planar fashion. No formal tests were conducted.
Avalanche
Glide avalanches had released all over the SW Face of tenderfoot, as well as in the incredibowls.
