Went to the Brooks weather station to clear the board: 11 inches, 2 inches SWE, HS 48 inches. Last cleared 1/16
No signs of instability today.
Dug on a northeast aspect at 9,300 feet on Barbers Point. I did not see surface hoar. HS 68 inches. January drought facets were buried 21 inches. Performed 2 ECT's: 1) ECTN20 down 12 inches in February snow, ECTN29 down 21 inches at the drought interface 2) ECTX
Poor structure remains, but the snowpack is slowly strengthening. Human-triggered avalanches remain possible (given the poor structure) if you find the right thin spot on a slab and impact the buried weak layer, or if you have a big enough trigger. The snowpack on Togwotee requires lots of time to adjust to loading. Assess steep, rocky terrain and previously wind-loaded slopes carefully.
