- Poor Snowpack Structure
Went for a walk up the summer road to supreme and took a short lap in the rocky point area of upper Catherine's Pass. Not a ton of snow still but hopefully the weekend will deliver. That said, all polar-ish aspects observed had facets to the ground. The second image was NE at around 10200ft in the shade where surface facets have formed. The 1st image is NW at 10400ft and has roughly 3-6 inches of facets with 4-6 inches of soft new snow on top.
I rode a small piece of terrain and made a few nice turns but the sharks were lurking. I was able to trigger a small steep section near the bottom and got some shooting cracks but there was not enough snow for it to move more than a few feet downslope. That will surely change here in a day or two.
Be safe folks!
