If the current snow surface becomes a future weak layer, underlying ground roughness (chunky talus vs. smooth tundra vs. smooth shales) will influence the continuity of the layer and how problematic it will be on specific slopes.  Thin snow coverage is generally lingering on mid to upper elevations on the northern half of the compass.  See photos for example.
