Observation: Red Pine Gulch

Went up Red Pine Fork today to explore snow conditions. The new snow from the past two small storm has vastly improved surface conditions. Mostly a dust on crust situation, but we found some very soft snow in spots and were overall surprised to find some great skiing. Minimal recrystallization has started to occur with the new snow, but will probably happen before the next storm cycle. The snowpack in upper Red Pine seems quite stable. We did not get any reactivity with a compression test. However, wind scouring/loading are providing a new problem layer (just under the new snow in our pit, about 8cm down) following future storms. We saw evidence of an old slide off No Name Baldy down Lake Shot, but the debris is mostly covered from additional storms.
