Quick report

Backcountry skiing in Mill Creek drainage east of Paradise Valley 1/29/26 @ approx. 2pm. Dug a pit performed a CT and ECT. ~9,200 ft elevation NNW aspect, sheltered 20 deg slope angle. Failed on CT20 @ 90cm SC. ECTP30 on same layer. Q2. bed surface mostly planar but made up of grainy non-cohesive snow. Snowpack description - approx. 6" nice powdery snow on top of a right side up section in the pit, mostly rounds until you get to the bottom 2 feet where there’s this November rain crust and then fatty facets near the ground measured 2mm. Observed one red flag old crown from some time in the last 1-2 months likely on the problem layer identified in our pit on a North aspect in adjacent drainage. Otherwise no signs of avalanches or collapsing and it skied well.
