The objective today was to reduce uncertainty with the snowpack coverage and terrain Upper White Pine in LCC is still sporting 150-200cm of snow in the upper alpine in many classic locations. It is spring and the surface conditions are variable, but pockets of cold snow exist in the high alpine N-NW facing. The instabilities noted during the 4/6-4/7 storm and warm have settled. The evidence of that cycle, and perhaps the previous wet cycle just before the 30cm on 4/7, is everywhere. JM reported a hard slab in the lower Tri Chutes a few days ago, and looking at this slide from the bottom was impressive. Not something I can remember seeing this time of year in this location. Looked to have started as a wind slab 2-3 feed deep in th mid track. Ran and gouged into old snow. Debris pile enough to bury a person.

All nature of surface conditions. Challenging skinning on solars. Some cold snow left up high but limited window of reliable top to bottom skiing, Spring diurnal mindset where timing is important and you should trust mobility skills of the partners you are with.
