Cracking
isolated

Multiple stability tests pointed to a very weak facet layer overlying a M/F crust at 30cm down. This could prove a problem with snow loading from storms predicted for this coming weekend. From a distance observed what looked like the remains of avalanche crown on the NW aspect of the Wind Tunnel. Slide may have occurred during the storm event earlier this week (pic). Observed no other signs of instability in my viewshed. Did not generate shooting cracks more than a couple feet in front of my skis.

Partly cloudy skies and calm winds. Temps from -11 to -13 F.

Snowpack

A lot of spacial variation in the snowpack. At lower elevations found 30 cm of fist combo of storm and wind deposited snow. On the Blueberry Knoll ridgetop observed signs of significant snow transport resulting from recent wind events (pic). Much of the recent storm snow had been stripped from the ridgetop by N. winds and deposited on S. aspects. Did pit at 2641ft on a southerly aspect of Blueberry Knoll in the wind-transported snow depositional zone. HS = 67cm. Got CT3@30cm down. The ECT test resulted in collapse during block isolation (profile attached). Collapse occurred at the base of a facet layer underlying a 30cm soft slab and overlying a M/F crust (pic).
