Ranger creek

tjmcarleton, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:32PM

Climbed in Ranger creek today. We arrived at just before 7 with 1 other party already there. Very busy day in there with people climbing most routes. Arrive early. Snow cons - On approach seemed Oct 23/overnight weather deposited 5cm (max) of new snow at approach elevation. Maybe 1ft of blown snow in pockets whilst descending avy slopes/drainages. Mostly slippery scree walking. No concern today regarding snow on approach or overhead hazard. Could definitely see the overhead changing with some snow/wind over the coming days. Ice cons - R and D early morning had lots of running water and didn’t look appealing today. Lone Ranger climbed well overall. Good ice down low with a poorer short section of more aerated ice for the last steep part of the climb (when taking the middle upper line). In general good enjoyable condition but steep top out and more like ‘WI3++’ as of this morning. Chalice and the blade - saw it climbed today- not sure on condition but left hand line of it ‘looked’ appealing.
