I have been up Hector 5 times to the summit and often poke my head in this time of year. This is the worst condition I have seen the route in at this time of year from a strict skiing perspective. Because I mostly just like skiing we didn’t tackle the very upper head wall to the Col or the true summit because the upper head wall had about 80 meters of exposed ice. There are way more holes than previous years. I’m not saying a summit doesn’t go you just need to prepare for a more “mountaineering,”’ day than just skiing.
