Small size 1 slide in a non patrolled part of Gem lake. 2 distinct layers in the crown.
Two distinct layers in the top 100cm of snow broke away above an unsupported slope
A tentative approach to the unsupported slope triggered a relatively small but potentially dangerous slide. The skier was able to react in time and stay above the majority of the sluff. The skier was in unpatrolled and uncontrolled terrain. The skier was prepared with a shovel, beacon, and probe and was skiing with and maintained contact with a buddy. The snow in that area was deceptively inviting but signs of activity were abundant.
