Quick Observation

There were Recent (24hr) Natural size 1 avalanches visible at treeline on 40 degree slopes in the AM on N - NE facing slopes. These areas were reloaded from Westerly wind by afternoon. Avoided all slopes =/>30 degrees. Great traction on the firm mid pack which sits on top of the Dec 6 Melt Freeze crust down 83cm at this location. This interface was not responsive to compression tests but did react in a deep tap test. A sled could easily trench to this depth particularly turning out from a steep climb. The sugary snow at the base was less

Avalanche Information

There were recent (24hr) Na size 1 avalanches visible at treeline on 40+ degree slopes in the AM on N to NE facing slopes. These areas were reloaded from W wind by afternoon. (Sled tracks in photo came after the initial Na release).

Snowpack

Upper pack SS reacting with CTE 3, 10 (SC) down 13cm and CTM 13 (SC) down 28. Looks to be an old WS that is healing CTH 25 (RC) down 48. Great traction on the 1F to P firm mid to lower pack which includes the Dec 6 MFcr crust down 83cm (K). This interface has decomposed to 10mm MF particles and was not responsive to compression tests but did react in a deep tap test: DTM 13 (SC). No observations taken on the DPWL (Nov 6 MFcr). Regrettably had to abandon a ECT for more pressing matters. Would have liked to test the propagation characteristics of the SS.
