Did a quick pit on the SW facing slope on the approach to the Titanic. Hs 140 cm. Two layers 25 cm and 45 cm down gave moderate compression tests. The 45 cm layer is a firm base from the clear weather last week, before the Jan 1/2 snowfall, but couldn't identify any surface hoar on it. Lots of wind loading on lee slopes, with 50-60 cm of slabby dense powder over a firm base (first photo). We decided not to cross the short avalanche slope on the way up to the Titanic (second photo), and stuck to mellow terrain.
