Tried to go to Victoria Pk via Gold River but got stopped by heli logging just past Muchalat Park. After a quick coffee refill in Gold River we motored down to Elk Mt and headed up the logging roads on the sleds. Below 1000 m we rode on a firm crust that supported the sleds and we could walk around with out sinking. Above 1000 m the crust got thinner and thinner the higher we went. By 1400 m the crust no longer supported us or our sleds and were punched through to the moist snow below. The sledding was good in the meadows on the NE side and we enjoyed the spring like temps as we drank tea in the sun. There was no sign of wind slab from last nights strong NW winds and we saw no significant cornice development along the alpine ridges. Besides a few very old loose wet avalanches from the past, we saw no new avalanche activity today. Cold overnight temps seem to be tightening the upper snowpack and limited any concerns we might have had.
