Puff Daddy

benjaminwcburrows, Tuesday 23rd March, 2021 12:30AM

Our objective today was Puff Daddy. Snowing on and off all morning. Broke trail through ~10cm of fresh snow near valley bottom, closer to 30cm by the time we reached the cliff band at 2200m. This snow was sitting on a P crust on solar aspects and we observed minor dry sluffs on >40 degree slopes. Reached the ridge after the cliff band where we transitioned. We suspected the initial open pitch off the ridge could be a problem so we skied the lowest angle possible. First skier triggered a soft slab (size 1-1.5) below him on a 35 degree east aspect. He was able to keep his feet and ski out to the side. Crown was roughly 40cm deep and 40m wide. Ran for ~150m. Puff Daddy skied very well. 40cm ski penetration at the top. We were able to just tickle the underlying crust on hard turns and drops. Very wet and sticky by the time we reached about 1400m asl.
