Ogden in Novembruary

LittleRaven, Monday 22nd November, 2021 8:00AM

Had a redemption lap at Ogden after terrible skiing in k-country on Friday. January conditions in November seems to suggests k-country sucks, but I’ve had many a beautiful January day in Kananaskis. Ogden delivered beautiful deep snow - a pit dug around 2150-2200 was probed at 155cm - a mellow slope but beautiful nonetheless! Pit reacted about 60cm down after 7 hard shoulder whacks. Felt safe enough for us! The sun never shone so the light was quite flat. We experienced flurries to 1cm/hr snow all day. There was near constant dry loose avalanche off the face of Ogden; nothing below was triggered. We also observed an old slab avalanche from a day or two prior; small and triggered right against the Ogden wall. Avy paths made for tight but fun skiing on the descent back to the lake. Lost a BCA two way radio on the ski out so if anyone finds it please call or text 403-809-6205 OR enjoy making use of the radio (the former is preferred!) Some areas definitely wind scoured - the lake may be crossable but we didn’t attempt it today.

Weather Report

Very poor vis today. Snow remained relatively constant from flurries to about 1cm/hr. Maybe slightly more for short periods. New snow seemed to be bountiful in most areas, but some windswept areas also.
