Washy Slackcountry

jan, Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 9:32PM

Island Alpine Guides Washy Slackcountry trip. Temps -15 to -18, winds at ridgetop 30kph NW. Ski penetration 35-50cm. Visible wind effect at treeline and BTL ridgetops with soft slab formation in wind exposed areas. One skier accidental less than size .5, soft windslab, 60cm deep, 8m wide good indication of what is likely out there if you don't stay out of the wind effected areas. Skied smaller unsupported slopes to high 30s degrees but mostly supportive lower angle slopes, all treeline and below. Thin (1mm) rain crust could be felt about 30cm deep in the pack but did not have any shears associated with it. Only reactivity found was in wind slabs. No recent natural activity observed. Some sloughing in steeper terrain but not running far.
