Beautiful day in the mountains, Whumpfs and rapid wind loading kept us on our toes. Enjoyed sliding and riding new snow on slopes less than 30 degrees.
As we were traveling we heard collapsing/whumpfs on north through west slopes between 8100' and 7600'. Some of these collapses were powerful enough to shake snow off the trees. Digging down to investigate the source of these whumpfs, I found the November/Decmeber depth hoar intact and not moist like I've been finding in other Northern Wallowa locales.Weather

Clouds were in and out. Periods of whiteout due to clouds and blowing snow. Lots of wind transport from southerly winds.
Snowpack
Height of snow ranged from 60cm to 90cm. Winds quickly scouring southerly slopes and loading norths. Quick hand pits showed this structure: 4F, Fist, Crust, facets/depth hoar.
