The approach to Meiss from Carson Pass held enough snow to travel on skis the whole way, though it was mostly just snow from the past storm without a base underneath. New snow depths ranged from 8" at the parking lot, to 16+" in Meiss proper. Recent rain resulted in a thick crust to my high point of 9000ft - where this was exposed due to wind erosion, it was becoming firm and slick. Where it was under new snow, it was wet to partially frozen. New snow was quite dense and moist. Rain appeared to have destroyed all the previous facet layers except for those right at the ground. Those were moist to wet, but still unconsolidated and weak today.
I ski cut several steep non-wind loaded test slopes without any cracking, but a wind loaded test slope cracked and propagated about the maximum I would expect of the terrain feature. Failure was a density change within the new snow and above the new rain crust.Weather

Snowpack
Everywhere I looked (up to 9000ft), the recent rain had destroyed all the old facet layers except right at the ground. At the ground, they were still facets and unconsolidated, but moist to wet.
