Did a pit at Blackwood, 7500, NNW aspect. I'm an amateur. I didn't really do the PST or ECT properly. Column size was a bit off, I used the wrong side of the saw for the PST, etc. That said... Very firm crust 40cm down (test slopes and road cuts slid on this crust). Weaker snow below the crust. Then mostly really hard snow to the ground. Did a PST to test the sandwiched weaker snow. Less than half way through, it failed to the end. Then did an ECT. No propagation. After 30 I hit it even harder until my hand hurt. Still no propagation. A road cut at 6900 feet with a WNW aspect slid naturally, mid way through the storm. There was six inches of new snow on the bed surface. It was hard to tell if it was one failure that propagated widely (most of the 100+ feet of the steep part of the road cut had slid) or a bunch of individual paths that went separately. Since it slid mid storm it was tough to tell if it was just one crown or many crowns all right next to each other. The bed surface was a firm crust - probably the same one the other obs from Ward, etc. are referring to. We were able to easily trigger the remaining steep part of the road cut that hadn't yet slid.
