Quick report
Went for a walk today up in the munchkins zone (east of alpine meadows) to ski somewhere different and see how the snowpack was holding up. Of note, below 7500k height snow was much thinner (1-2 ft) and the surface conditions were quite variable overall. Surfaces ranged from supportable crusts to thin unsupportable crusts and near surface facets (cold, soft snow). Overall the skiing was pleasant on the due north sheltered terrain (as long as you avoid the tree drips). I dug a quick snowpit to ID some layers and see how things were shaping up. Pit location was @ 8k, on a NW aspect. HS was 90cm, and presented as a strong uniform snowpack. Grains were mostly a mix of rounds and crusts with some healing basal facets at ground. Top 15-25cm was F/4F near surface facets (potential issue for future loading event).
