Quick report
Even though we saw an avalanche crown and slide path on our tour, our overall impression was that the snowpack was stable. (We thought the avalanche was likely natural from the previous storm cycle). We had predominantly wind buff, with some ice crusts near the top of the peak and sticky cream cheese snow lower elevation in deep creek. Skinning up, we experienced thin snowpack and ice near the top of Billy's on the south facing aspect. We skied down the north side of Billy's Peak in the trees around 12pm. We experienced good turns in mostly wind buff, with the stickier, cream cheese snow the lower we dropped into Deep Creek. We also noticed snow settling around tree trunks. The weather was as predicted- mostly cloud cover with some sun, no precip. The weather felt warm (skinned up in a thin sunhoody), but the wind chill at the exposed top was cold with some large SW gusts that transported minimal snow. There wasn't much snow to transport as the south aspects were scoured and icy.
Avalanche
We Toured up Deep Creek to Billy's Peak and observed a large avalanche on the cliffs (east aspect) just south of Tinkers Knob. We assume it was a natural avalanche because we didn't see any ski tracks near the crown. We were too far away to estimate size of crown, slide path, or width. It may have happened in the last 48 hours, so we decided to share info with SAC.
