Quick report
Weather: started out mid 30s around 8am in the parking lot, noticeable warming trend. High clouds and some lower clouds creeping up the valley later in the morning. Snow surface: roller balls. Punchy crust down low. Crust was noticeably less thick around 3600', and disappeared by 3900'. Still some visible wind effect up on ridges (see photo). No recent avalanches observed. Snowpack: dug a pit at 4900' on a n facing knoll of draft dodger. Wind had created a lot of overlapping wind slabs in the upper snowpack in addition to storm interfaces. One down 22cm (which I think is maybe the 2/18 interface?) had some results (CTM8 SC, ECTN) in snowpack tests. The big scary was the column test result on the 1/10 complex, planar results with only 3 taps from the wrist 127cm down (CTE3 SP). YIKES. Outside of normal CT bounds, but didn't even have to do a deep tap test to find it! I didn't get any ECT results on it, but again outside the bounds of normal testing. In a propagation saw test the 1/10 also showed up - 57/120 END. I struggled to isolate my PST through the crusts with my arm length, so not super confident in my result, it may have been more sensitive in actuality. In a snow profile I found rounding facets on the JDL, but big 1-2mm facets in the 1/10 complex.
