Quick report
Wind speed varied greatly through the day from practically non-existent to then 10-15 mph wind. Snowfall was off and on throughout the day. Travel conditions were difficult on steeper solar aspect slopes. Old avalanche debris in all parts of the compass is starting to get covered by new/wind-transported snow. As we climbed Baker entrance exam (W aspect), we noticed the snow was well preserved but becoming more wind affected as we approached the saddle. A hand shear conducted near 5700 ft, 32 degrees on a western aspect needed a hard force to be pulled off. The block was fist above 4 finger snow about 35 cm thick sitting that broke above a layer of fist hard snow below. At the Herman saddle, visible light wind loading could be observed on leeward aspects. A traverse across a east facing 35 degree, slightly wind loaded planar slope near ridgeline produced no result. Along with jumping and stomping on a north facing convexity produced no result. East facing terrain below ridge line provided the best skiing for the day with soft turns. Exiting by the east side of Herman was horrendous skiing with old avi debris with old dense heavy snow on top. Back at the parking lot it looks like around 2 cm had fallen between 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM.
