Quick report
Dug two pits, first one on a NNE aspect, second one an E aspect. Performed a CT in both. NNE pit saw stable interface (CTN) at the 1-2 cm thick ice layer ~20-25 cm below surface, whereas the E pit had layer of slush ~1 cm thick directly below a ~1 cm thick ice layer. This slushy layer gradually failed around the 5th-7th tap from the elbow (CTM). Both pits saw a failure ~80 cm below the surface in the middle of a thick (>45 cm) layer of ~4F hard snow on the 2nd or 3rd tap from the shoulder (CTH). This failure plane was not obvious in initial profiles of the snowpack. Saw no signs of instability while skiing. Light snow throughout the day turned to sleet for ~30 minutes while digging the first (NNE aspect) pit.
