Quick report

Cracking
specific

Varied snow conditions throughout the Baker backcountry, but the trend was a mostly unconsolidated 3-5” layer of snow on top of the previous crust. The loose snow varied in its consistency with altitude becoming closer to dry powder above 5000ft. This snow also seemed to be consolidating as the morning went along with no consolidation except in isolated leeward wind pockets around 10AM to showing signs of cracking, whumphing when stepped on, and sliiiiight slabiness around 12.

Avalanche

One skier triggered a very small D0.5 slide of loose unconsolidated snow on top of the crust on a southerly 35 degree slope about 200’ below Herman Saddle in the direction of Iceberg Lake. The snow only slid for approximately 25’.
