Quick report

Quiet trip out to Mt. Catherine. In short, you can do it, but bushes and trees outnumber turns >10:1. Cold snow and beautiful spindly frost on branches to nearly 2cm at the base of Catherine this morning. Surface hoar was evident in the meadows, but it wasn't super big -- <1cm. Near the summit, a sub-surface crust became supportable and refrozen tree-drips had begun to pock-mark the snow surface. Thick high clouds were evident by daybreak, never saw the sun all day. Some inverted clouds in and out at the Pass in the morning, but west of the Pass, we could see across to Granite through the falling snow. East flow prevailed for us all day. Beginning before noon, fine-grained light/moderate snow began clicking off our jackets. By 2:30, as we descended Hyak, it had turned to freezing rain. Had to scrape 2-4mm of ice accumulation off the windward windows of the car.
