Quick report
Light snowfall all day (S-1) and light SW winds. Very thin conditions at Cape Horn Summit and up the SW ridge until 8400 ft elevation. SW aspects had supportable crust for skinning and near surface faceting underneath the melt-freeze crust. Coverage improves above 8500 feet, but did not find more than 70 cm of snow anywhere. Skied a West aspect from the Cape Horn Mtn ridge and found a weak snowpack without the presence of a cohesive slab anywhere in the snowpack. Two weak melt-freeze crusts exists in the mid pack on the West aspect. Both crusts have faceted grains immediately below them. Not a snowpack structure conducive to valid compression test results, or triggering avalanches (weak over weak layers). Skis collapsed through the snowpack to the lower crust on the skin back up to Cape Horn Mtn ridge. Very hollow and weak structure on the West aspect.
