Quick report
By 15:00 climbing out of Iceberg Trees, we measured 1.5” new snow since this morning. Skies were obscured most of the day, starting to break up in the early afternoon around 13:00, becoming mostly clear by 17:00. From 11:20-11:45, temps cooled and snowfall rate increased to about 1cm/hr. Otherwise temps hovered near to above freezing (snow melting off trees in the afternoon). At 13:00 sun broke through momentarily encouraging a large pinwheel and a few roller balls to tumble downhill on a west aspect of table. The pinwheel picked up more mass on a section of slope that had not already slid, before toppling and sliding a little ways. Skis only penetrated the top 10cm of the snowpack in most areas we traveled — and ski quality was better than expected!
Avalanche
Many D2 - D2.5 avalanches observed from the recent wet slab and glide avalanche cycle as we made our way around Table Mountain. The size of the debris on the South side of Table was the largest, though we had no visibility of the start zones.
