Quick report
Slacked my way around Crystal today. Late start around Noon. Rode a west face (out gate 3), southwest, south, southeast faces (in Crystal Lakes) and an east face (in Morse Creek basin). Encountered 5-7 inches of surprising dry snow with widespread surface hoar on all aspects between 5000 and 6500ft. Hoar was less widespread on eastern aspects and at lower, unshaded elevation but still present. Crystals measured approximately one centimeter. I returned via Boundary Basin around sunset where the snow was much deeper. I was expecting a lot more rollerballs and wetter snow. However, thick and patchy clouds to the south and southwest provided mostly shade into the evening.
