Quick report

Surprisingly warm still, with only a superficial crust at the surface. All the old snow is still moist, and the 3cm of new overnight snow was as well. In the pits we dug, we didn't find any weaknesses that currently concerned us, although the crust was breaking down quickly on the southern half. It's moist as far as we dug down on both north and south aspects- over a meter deep.

Varying cloud heights and occassional sun breaks in the early afternoon. Slight greenhousing was in effect.

Snowpack

A soft 3-5cm surface refreeze happened overnight at all aspects and elevations. On the southern half it broke down a little by midday, although we spent almost no time on that aspect aside from the pit. Skis stayed on top of the crust, but boot penetration was 1-2ft, although occasionally feet punched deeper. There was a little greenhousing, and the thin new snow layer was moist on all aspects, and would rollerball on steep slopes. 

We dug two pits on opposing aspects at 5250ft: 

South- moist large grained melt forms down to the obvious Early February Crust interface. The Early Feb Crust was knife-hard and mainly dry, with frozen crystal bonds intact. Small amounts of water pooling were present above the 2/24 crust, but draining is slowing from previous days. Pit tests (compression test) produced no results

North- Moist large-grained melt forms were in the top foot, but beneath this layer, all the way down to the Early Feb Crust small moist rounds were present. The EFC was surprisingly soft and easy to shovel through. The layer was moist. Layers of note: A failure that I could only isolate with a hard shovel shear was midway down the moist rounds, at 55cm down (3/9 interface?).  A deep tap test failed with 24 taps about 5cm below the top of the EFC. I found melt forms that previously looked to be facets at that location.
