Quick report
Departed Timberline 1130. Returned 1730. Mix of 1st/2nd hand obs. On Climbers Trail to top of Palmer, no need for ski crampons this time (albeit early PM on warm, calm and sunny day (early on at least). Above Palmer more than one skier/boarder chose to hike down w one commenting would have been a fun ski earlier (varied winds had picked up and clouds rolled in). Opted to boot/crampon above palmer w zero post-holing. Near dusk, found fairly well-sheltered-from-above transition spot just below Crater Rock (had noted a few unprompted bits hurtling by me on ascent, maybe due to easterly winds increasing). Skied Zigzag a bit too far to 8K’ despite leveraging past gps waypoints…prob due to distraction from skiing becoming slipperier/icier via refreeze around 8.5ish. Very happy had a whippet (axe better), tho still bit unnerving. Consequently, due to rolling bony mini ridges descent took tad longer. Groomers were very enjoyable (albeit bony at end to Climbers Lot) despite lateness of hour.
