Avalanche Information

A size 2.0 loose, dry point release in Single Bench hit a party of 3 people on Feb 16th. The person up front saw it coming and stepped out of the way, the 2 people behind were hit and flushed down the couloir. One person stopped after 250m of tumbling, the second person went 600m in the avalanche, including over small cliffs. This person broke an arm. The party self-rescued while a Parks Canada team was mobilizing for a rescue.

Incident

Size 2 loose, dry avalanche in a confined gully (Single Bench, Mt Tupper) knocked 2 of 3 people down the couloir. One person stopped after 250m of tumbling, the other rode 600m in the debris and over cliffs, breaking an arm. The party self-rescued before the Parks Canada team arrived on scene.
