It’s a weird day to bail?

Got out for an easy day at Emerald Lake slide path and surprisingly ended up turning around at 2010m. Meandered up the Christmas trees on the left side of the path and experienced a couple whumpfs which had us investigate a bit & turn around to lap the bottom bench. Not what we expected! Ski quality was alright. ~15cm of fresh storm snow on supportive but icy crust. The warm weather & decent sun had us cursing our baselayers. Cooler weather & scattered flurries rolled in as we left at ~3:30pm and the top <1cm of warmed up storm snow was already making a move to being crusty.
Snow conditions were: Crusty, Heavy. Weather conditions were: Cloudy, Sunny, Warm. We avoided: Convex slopes. Riding quality was ok.
Avalache Conditions: Whumpfing or drum-like sounds or shooting cracks.
Emerald Lake Slide Path, 2010m, SE Aspect In spaced out Christmas trees. Full sun. Several more Melt-Freeze crusts below but didn’t react in the two tests. Snowpack well consolidated below 50cm.
