Today we went up McBride Peak for some skiing. The temperatures finally cooled down today, and leaving lower elevations with a new crust on top. Up high the snow is piling up nicely with 150cm of snow at 1900m. Recent winds have scoured ridge tops and loaded lee features in the Alpine, so while we took a look around, we didn't do much skiing above the trees. Tree Line was the sweet spot with 25cm of new snow from the last storm waiting to be skied. Winds haven't affected these areas as much and the cool temperatures have kept the new snow dry. This made for a day of fun and fast skiing through the trees. Unfortunately the same conditions that made good skiing have also formed feathery surface hoar crystals overnight. This is something we will be keeping a close eye on as we wait for the next snowfall.
