Wall Ridge

nadine.kozina, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

We found a highly variable HS on this ridge with excellent riding if you go where the wind blew the snow. On the western side of the ridge there is no snow whereas only 10m away there are wind drifts >2m deep in the lee. A true HS would be 50cm at 1800 and 1m above 1900. The mid Nov crust is 5cm thick and provides a nice sliding surface for you and the 10-20cm of recent HST seems to be well bonded to that crust.... so far....thanks to the warm temps lately. Very little avalanche activity observed. Only some small loose snow avalanches out of extremely steep terrain up near Bennet Pass west of wall lake. The burnt tree riding is phenomenal, keeping speed in check is crucial while skiing this burnt forest as the trees suddenly are rushing at you quite quickly and they would not be as soft as the POW.
