North Face of Log Cabin

austinjamesneill, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

It's always better snow up higher is definitely a myth. At least in our case today. North Face of Log Cabin is for sure rideable and fun. However, conditions are variable. Great day to be in the mountains as far as visibility! Log Cabin parking wind was light, temperature -5 with clouds beginning to break. On the north face at 1350m we were just able to look over the top of the clouds covering the valley. Winds remained light. At 1600m wind was light from the south temperature sitting around -6 with clear skies and panoramic views Snow conditions 900m around 70cm in the meadows off the train tracks 1100m I probed 115cm in a fun powdery gully 1400m approximately 60cm of hard wind affected snow. With times of 0-20cm of ski pen. 1600m Dense wind-blasted snow 0-40cm Making for a really noisy climbing and decent. Quite a lot of exposed rock and small patches of grass. Conditions were ok as far as touring goes and decent for boot packing in alpine terrain.
