Mt Abbot attempt on foot - snow line around 1700m and got deep really fast with additional elevation gain. Found HS 60cm at 2000m and deeper above. 25+cm of fresh snow on a semi-supportive melt-freeze crust, with a ton of facets below. Got a large wumpf with cracking on a flat spot on NE aspect around 2200m, that crust layer failing on the facets below - this will be an issue for a while I assume. No natural avalanche activity noted. No snow in valley bottoms would make it a fair effort to ski this early but ride quality could be quite good with some effort and an overnight or 2 stay at Asulkan.
