Beaver Creek

dave.mustang, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Great spring conditions in Beaver Creek on Sunday. It is still freezing above 1400m, and it didn't thaw the surface crust until almost 1 pm. Great snow after that, strong surface and good traction once the surface thawed, but it never got very warm in the shade all day. Lots of avalanche activity in the size 1-2 range, and one big size 2.5 or three. S and W aspect avalanches were usually small and started in rocks, N and E aspect avalanches were bigger and triggered by Cornice falls. There was no sign of activity on Sunday, but it was cooler than the previous few days. Be very careful travelling, as pieces of the cornice and the slides are reaching and in some cases crossing the main trails. More slides will happen as it continues to warm, and there are still huge cornices to come down.
