Winter in Harvey!

Flathead

Today in the Harvey area it was still a bit like winter! There was 15 to 20 cm of soft snow on north-facing slopes with a northeast wind moving snow around at upper elevations. There were some small wind slabs forming directly lee of ridge crests. Temperatures were cool -7 °C at 2200 m, with flurries accumulating a couple of centimeters of new snow throughout our day. The total snowpack depth was 220 cm. We investigated a layer that we could feel with our probe down 80 cm and dug to find a facet layer that we suspect is from Mid-January. We saw no new avalanches and had great turns on steep, sheltered north-facing terrain.
