Perley rock

Skied to the top of the moraine (2200m) below Perley Rock today. Mixed bag of weather kept us from gaining the final slopes up to the summit. North aspect alpine terrain skied great with no wind affect in the top 20-30cm. West aspect tree skiing was great too. We dug a pit at 2000m, NW aspect at treeline. Two layers present in the upper metre of snow: CT15 resistant planar failure down 50cm (likely Jan 17 surface hoar) and CT25 failure at 100cm. We avoided thin spots high on the moraine to minimize risk of triggering these layers. While digging the pit, the sun showed up and within 10min we observed point releases on south facing rocky terrain that resulted in a size 1-1.5 slide. Also observed very touchy snow at 1660m exiting the final slopes into the Illecillewaet drainage. 30cm slabs releasing very easily on unsupported features, with a firm snow surface underneath and surface hoar visible.
