Quick Observation

Spent the day in the Corbin area on Limestone Ridge where there was evidence of reverse windloading from northeast winds that followed the storm. The Jan 17 feathery surface hoar layer is down 30cm. In protected areas, the new snow above this layer is still fairly soft. In open terrain, this layer has settled into a stiffer layer. The high temperature for the day was -16 and sunny with light southeast winds. We observed several avalanches from size 1 - 2.5 that occurred during or shortly after the new snow fell.
