Quick Observation
Surprisingly pleasant tour today at Mount Kelly. On to the info: -Moist on snow all aspects below 1500m in the afternoon. -Beautiful faceted powder even on south aspects (!) but only in slivers of shade. -Crusty tree bomb gnar in the trees. Enter at your own risk!😁 -1-3 cm breakable MFcr in open sun-exposed terrain. 😬 -Interesting test results on a north aspect just below the summit: hard but sudden fractures (ECTN 27 and CTH 22 SC) down about 45 cm, immediately below the top lamination of the late December crust. The crust is quite broken down and airy. We felt the layer would be unlikely (but possible) to produce size 1-1.5 releases but only on very steep, unsupported features. The faceting snow above didn't seem likely to propagate a fracture very well. Go get that shady pow!
